Synopsis - Netiquette
Netiquette
As a mother and an educator I am very aware of the concerns of uploading photos and information on children onto the Net.
Other areas of extreme caution are when a child uses the Net as a Social Network. There are many predators in the world wide web and it is advisable to be aware of who your child is chatting to.
In a school situation, Net Alert, is a cybersafe area which guides teachers about safety using the net in schools. Children and staff do need to have passwords for security.
Plagiarism
As a University student I am aware of having permission to use images and referencing material I use on the internet. There are rules to abide by, for example; the 10% paper based copying rule which allows you to use parts of documents but care needs to be taken.
Exploitation
Using Facebook and other public sites, blogs included, care needs to be taken not exploit others or yourself by using photographs, videos or words which may be perceived by others as impolite or unprofessional.
Synopsis - Connectivism and Constructivist Theories evident
I found setting up a Wiki, (mfdcscience.wikispaces.com) to be a useful task. The wiki was very helpful when practicing the Quizz for Assessment 1. I participated in the Mobile Phone exercise. I have also been into the Science lecturers wiki several times.
I consider a Wiki a Constructivist type of learning whereby you learn socially when sharing your opinion and research on the site. Explicit examples were offered on the Wiki's for the learners to use and learn from. Students could upload shared research for others to use. There were many benefits for learning. Scaffolding and collaborating helped to build on my knowledge using these sites.
Connectivism's learning theory was also evident. Lecturers have set up wiki's to be used by students. The high standard of presentation of the wiki encourages the student to participate at a higher level.
Wiki's will be very useful for my students of Mudjimba Family Day Care to do science, sose and art assignments in School Age Care. I am looking forward to utilising this Wiki.
Synopsis - TPACK and Blooms Taxonomy
TPACK is an invaluable framework to ensure that the Learning Manager compbines pedagogy and content with the ability to bring in Technology, not only knowing the content and knowledge but how to teach children so that they can keep learning about the new technologies. Technology changes constantly, and a teacher needs to be able to adapt with this. The Learning Manager needs to understand that teaching technology is ever changing, requiring a flexible approach to keep investigating and learning about the new things available. This is another area of teaching that the teacher needs to step outside the box, this digital immigrant has lots to learn yet.
This has been a very well taught subject. I have been challenged to step outside my comfort zone, to find out how to use new tools. I am grateful for the help I have received at University from students, lecturers, staff and also from my family to complete this subject. People are very generous with their time. I have definitely achieved higher order thinking.
Synopsis - De Bono, TPACK, Blooms Taxonomy
I have entered into the De Bono Six Thinking Hats Wiki on the Moodle sight.
I used the black hat examining the difficulties and problems associated with the use of mobile phones in the classroom.
I also used the blue hat to focus on reflection and to organise the thinking.
As a student, I was able to use an IPAD in the lecture last night to make a movie. This was enjoyable and engaging. Reflecting about my enjoyment made me think about my father who now has an IPAD but doesn't know how to use it properly yet. My 13 year old daughter has a laptop and an IPOD. She uses Facebook for social media. I now understand the importance of these tools for my 13 year old daughter. I would not like her to feel as alienated as my dad does about these tools.
I don't think my daughter needs the expense of a mobile phone or the distraction of one in the classroom. Children need to be taught the etiquitte and value of this tool first.
I would consider buying an IPAD for my daughter and my family day care business as I really love what they can do. Mobiles aren't needed by children in the classroom. Mobile phones are a distraction. There are many other great tools for the classroom as was evident in our lecture last night. There was no mention of the mobile phone in the lecture.
I like the TPACK framework. It helps me to value the knowledge frameworks involved in ICT ie: the Technological , Pedagogical and Content Knowledge frameworks. It helps me realise that the use of technology is a higher order thinking reached by a natural engagement in the child. Whereas my fathers generation treats it with fear. Therefore by following the TPACK framework, the Learning Manager can be more confident that they will be a competant teacher who know the content and how to teach it.
I look at Blooms Taxonomy and I realise the importance of learning technology so that we reach higher levels of thinking as I am doing in this blog. Well presented digital pedagogy is going to contribute to knowing what your learners know, how they learn, and what their learning styles are. If the Learning Manager knows how to teach ICT, they will feel confident that learners will learn in todays changing world.
Synopsis - PMI
I was cautioned by another student when trying to transfer graphs to a blog, this would be tricky, and so it is.
PMI Blogs to be used by students in classroom
Plus Minus Interesting
Can’t be used in schools
Others can read it, possible bullying, predators I think it is best for children to have less exposure to the negative side of the internet so this is best, The Learning Place will have the best blogging tools for schools
Great collaborative tool Have to learn how to invite people to your blog This was very helpful to me, as other students were able to give support
Learn from others It was great seeing others work so that it made me raise the bar
Get help I was helped by other students and a lecturer, this kept me going, thank you
Can link to other sites This offers many more learning opportunities and makes the site interesting and offers networking
Makes you think about being professional when you know the world could see it Very easy to write how you feel without thinking professionally All the comments go to the web, care is needed here,
Makes you accountable when you know that others can see it I now realise how exposed blogs are to the world, needs to be kept professional.
You are able to edit what you write This is comforting that you can change what you have written but once the recipients have received it you can’t take it back, so would you need to edit it immediately or is it too late once it is published.
No one else can edit your work
Synopsis - Where to find the tools
Another tricky transfer - I have some more research to do on blogs so that I can present them professionally.
